LABRAL - The labrum is a ring of cartilage that lines the shoulder socket. Because the shoulder socket is shallow, the labrum effectively deepens the shoulder socket and makes the joint with the end of the upper arm (the humerous) more stable. Google "labrum"
LABRAL TEAR - A tear in the labrum almost always means that the cartilage has become separated from the bone, not that there is a tear in the ring of cartilage itself. Google "labral tear"
MR arthogram - Before the MRI is performed, a dilute dye is injected into the joint. This is done in cases where even the high degree of resolution of the MRI has not proven useful in diagnosing a particular injury - the addition of dye makes visible injuries that otherwise might not have been noticed. Google "MRI Arthrogram"
Intra-articular administration - injecting a drug into the synovial cavity (squishy stuff) of a joint. Google "defintion of intra-articular"
Foramen - an opening, generally a natural opening. The "labral foramen" mentioned in the MRI report is apparently normal although not present in all individuals. Google "labral foramen"
Sublabral Sulcus - a depression, fissure, groove, crevice, furrow, etc. Apparently also normal in many individuals although problematic in some. Google "sublabral sulcus shoulder"
Posterior superior labrum - Anterior means front, posterior means back, superior means top, and inferior means bottom. The posterior superior labrum is the part on the top near the back. Google "posterior superior labrum"
